Shotokan Karate
Bright Martial Arts & Fitness (BMAF) provides karate training in Burnaby area. We seeks to promote Traditional Shotokan Karate through lifelong practice. Shotokan (松濤館) is a style of karate, developed from various martial arts by Gichin Funakoshi (1868–1957) and his son Gigo (Yoshitaka) Funakoshi (1906–1945).
Karate is a martial art that can be practiced by anyone, regardless of age or gender, and can be undertaken at any time during a person’s life. The training system employed in karate comprises three main areas: kihon (basics), kumite (sparring), and kata (forms). It is involving a variety of techniques, including blocks, strikes evasions, throws, and joint manipulations. With intense training in a disciplined environment, members will develop physically and mentally.
Karate is not a punching and kicking sport. Violence should never be the solution to solve a problem, we learn Karate (Martial Arts) is not only for training our body, but also and most importantly, for training our heart and our mind to stand firm, to be positive, to be courageous in any circumstances, and reach the goal of life.

You CAN do it ! You don’t need any martial arts or boxing experience to take a cardio kicking fit class. Everyone is welcome.
Our programs is considered a low- or high-impact, high-intensity workout, it is a combination movement from Karate, Tae Kwan Do and Kick-Boxing.
Beginners are advised to begin slowly. Listen to your body and take water breaks when you need them. Work your way up to exercising at full intensity.
